Chicago Style Paper – Used Commonly for Social Sciences!

Chicago Style Paper- its Features and Usage…

Introduction

The Chicago style paper is also referred to as the turabian style of writing.  This type of formatting is mostly used for social sciences and also for history and political science.

Chicago formatting:
The Chicago formatting provides detailed information over the source. Papers on history, politics, etc. require a detailed source. Citation formats like MLA format paper and APA formatting provides only the name of the author or the title in a short form in case the name of the author is not given. But the Chicago formatting paper gives the source of information also. The footnotes and endnotes that comes in Chicago style allows the author to comment on the source or provide extra information that adds to the ideas in the text, but it is not required for an understanding.

In- text citation:

Chicago style paper mostly contains footnote at the end of the paper. When your professor asks you to follow the Chicago style of formatting, he or she will expect you to use the footnotes whenever the writer borrows text from other people’s work. But when the paper is short, the footnotes option is not a wise idea. When your paper is going to be short, you can use the in-text citation instead of footnotes when there are not many citations. This will make your work look less scrambled. The general rule in Chicago style of formatting is that if the paper is under ten pages and the Chicago style of formatting is followed then in-text citation is used. In-text citation should contain the author’s last name, the date, the page number within the parenthesis and separated by a comma.

Endnotes or footnote:

In the Chicago style paper, footnotes are commonly used at the end of the paper. They are in the text by a superscript number or by a *. The only difference between the main text and the footnotes are that their font size is small and they appear in the end of the page with the gap of three or four spaces after the main text. Footnotes are usually used in papers that are more than ten pages and are most commonly used in colleges. The first line of all footnotes is indented, each footnote is single spaced, and there is an extra space between references.

Content notes

One of the advantages of using footnotes instead of in-text citations like the other formats is that you are able to include information beyond the citation in the reference. The writers get a clear and immediate idea of where you got the information from and which source you have read by just looking at the end of the page instead of turning to the last page of the entire paper. This is one of the biggest advantages in Chicago style paper.

These are the general rules of a Chicago style paper. If you still have a doubt, you always have custom essays at your service! Find out what custom essays can do to help you with your essays, term papers, research papers, thesis writing and much more!
