Formatting is the boost to a research paper
Introduction
A good research paper format is as important as the content of a research paper. Students maybe asked to follow a particular format. All the teachers give equal importance to the formatting of a research paper as to its content. If the teacher instructs you in following a specific format then follow them. Each research paper will have its own formatting rules. The format size and the referencing depend on the instructions given by the teacher to the students. Though there are different format to each subjects, the following are common in all the research papers:
Title page:
This is the first page of a research paper where the main title is given. It contains the name of the subject under which the research paper comes, the title for the topic discussed in the research paper and the student’s name class or department in which he or she is studying.
Table of contents:
This page is in the tabular form which contains serial number, contents and page number. This is the second basic research paper format. The serial number denotes the number of sub headings in the research paper, the content has the name of each sub heading and the page number is the page on which each sub heading starts.
Introduction:
Research paper introduction is the beginning of the paper. This is the most important part as they kindle the interest of the reader. It gives a sketch on what the paper is going to be.
Body:
This contains the different sub headings that are covered under the research paper topic. Each sub heading gives detailed information over the subject.
The conclusion:
Conclusion should provide a sketch on the important points discussed in the research paper. It can also contain the probable solutions and your own point of views over the topic under discussion in the research paper.
References:
If you have used any references of any other author’s, then the references section is the necessary part in the research paper format. The information that you have used is not your own writing and if not referenced is considered plagiarism. Make sure that you write the author’s name, the book’s name and the year of publication. For example,
Gosse.E (1969): Studies in European Literature (Electronic Version): Ayer Publishing, (and the web address from which you have taken the information)
This is how referencing is done when the information is taken from an electronic source such as the internet.
